    Underwear Goes on the inside

This is a song I heard on the radio this morning with very interesting lyrics. It is a commentary on life in America, terrorism, homelessness, obesity, drugs, the internet, self esteem...

I cannot post the entire lyrics here due to some of the content.

    here is some of it:

Americans, lets face it: We've been a spoiled country for a long time.
Do you know what the number one health risk in America is ?
Obesity. They say we are in the middle of an obesity epidemic.
An epidemic like it is polio.Like we will be telling our grandkids about it one day.
The Great Obesity Epidemic of 2004.
"How did you get through it grandpa?"
"oh, it was horrible Johnny, there was cheesecake and pork chops everywhere."

We’re in one of the richest countries in the world,
but the minimum wage is lower than it was thirty five years ago.
    There are homeless people everywhere.
This homeless guy asked me for money the other day.
I was about to give it to him and then I thought he was going to use it on drugs or alcohol.
And then I thought, that’s what I’m going to use it on.
Why am I judging this poor (edit)
People love to judge homeless guys. Like if you give them money they’re just going to waste it.
Well, he lives in a box, what do you want him to do? Save it up and buy a wall unit?
Take a little run to the store for a throw rug and a CD rack? He’s homeless.
I walked behind this guy the other day.
A homeless guy asked him for money.
He looks right at the homeless guy and says why don’t you go get a job you bum.
People always say that to homeless guys like it is so easy.
This homeless guy was wearing his underwear outside his pants.
Outside his pants. I’m guessing his resume isn’t all up to date.
I’m predicting some problems during the interview process.
I’m pretty sure even McDonalds has a “underwear goes inside the pants” policy.
Not that they enforce it really strictly, but technically I’m sure it is on the books.

If you are so inclined look up the lyrics and we can discuss it here.

    Sunscreen

Okay, after listening to Underwear today I was reminded of the old sunscreen song.

This song contains some of the very best advice I have ever heard, if you haven't read the lyrics before, here they are:

Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
    than my own meandering
experience…I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked….You’re not as fat as you
    imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
    on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

    Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.

    Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
    yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

    Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
    olds I know still don’t.

    Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
    own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
    good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
    knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

    Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.

    Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
    might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will
    look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
    it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen…

    GREAT ADVIC

Have you listened to "Where is the love?"

It's in the same category as the one you're posting. I think we should post that lyrics (there's nothing bad in the lyric).

Sunscreen, one of my favorite. I wish there's more song like that!! anyway, here's the lyrics to "Where is the love" by Black Eyed Peas

What's wrong with the world mama?
People living like aint got no mamas
I think the whole worlds addicted to the drama
Only attracted to the things that bring you trauma
Overseas yeah we tryin to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin
In the USA the big CIA the Bloodz and the Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And if you hatin you're bound to get irate
Yeah madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
You gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love y'all

    People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can you practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
    Father Father Father help us
    Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?(where is the lovex3)(the love2x)

It just ain't the same all ways have changed
New days are strange is the world the insane?
If love and peace so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
    Nations dropping bombs
Chemical gases filling lungs of little ones
    With ongoing suffering
    As the youth die young
So ask yourself is the loving really strong?
So I can ask myself really what is going wrong
With this world that we living in
    People keep on giving in
    Makin wrong decisions
Only visions of them livin and
    Not respecting each other
    Deny thy brother
The wars' going on but the reasons' undercover
    The truth is kept secret
    Swept under the rug
    If you never know truth
    Then you never know love
    Where's the love y'all?(I don't know)
    Where's the truth y'all?(I don't know)
    Where's the love y'all?

    People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
    Can practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
    Father father father help us
    Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?(where is the lovex3)(the lovex2)

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm getting older y'all people get colder
Most of us only care about money makin
Selfishness got us followin the wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting their young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what the see in the cinema
Whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness and equality
Instead of spreading love, we're spreading anomosity
Lack of understanding, leading us away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feeling under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feeling down
It's no wonder why sometimes I'm feeling under
I gotta keep my faith alive, until love is found

    People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can you practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
    Father Father Father help us
    Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
    Where is the love?(fade)

When I hear these songs I don't worry about the lyrics. I worry about how the song is goign to effect the young people that listen to the songs. The author of these songs is porobally just trying to have people see that their are problems and we shod do something about them. What isnt considerd in a song like this is how it will really effect the young people psychologically.
Not only can a song like this make kids focus on the bad side of the world and lead to depression, anger, and sadness but it can also cause other psycholigical problems latter on.
If i heard that song i would feel motivated to do something but then when we actualll get ready to do it it happens that alot of things stand in our way and it isnt so easy. To me its like the song writer is telling the kids to do soemtign they cant. No only does that discourage them they may feel as if they have faild to do what they are suppsoed to do.

theses songs are no doubt made for good pourposes. Some kids may just take it the wrong way if they arent too..... smart.

im not sayign though you listen to it once and your scared for life. im saying that when this type of music is constantly listend to and its there for a lonng time problems can arise.

its reasons like this that i listen to classical music , No one to sublimanial message me...... hmm now i sound like im on ATS. i just dont want my view on life and the world imposed by someone else i want to think whats best for me not whats best for soemone else. ( not in a selfish un kind manner though)

the lyrics of this song mean alot to me. It shows love i think. even though it doesnt quite fit into your catagory this song is specail to me.

    Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)
    John Lennon

    Close your eyes
    Have no fear
    The monster's gone
He's on the run and your daddy's here

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy
    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy

    Before you go to sleep
    Say a little prayer
    Every day in every way
    It's getting better and better

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy
    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy

Out on the ocean sailing away
    I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
But I guess we'll both just have to be patient
'Cause it's a long way to go
    A hard row to hoe
Yes it's a long way to go
    But in the meantime

    Before you cross the street
    Take my hand
Life is what happens to you
While you're busy making other plans

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy
    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy

    Before you go to sleep
    Say a little prayer
    Every day in every way
    It's getting better and better

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
    Beautiful boy
    Darling, darling, darling
    Darling Sean

Thank you for the songs. Poetry set to music. Strange how it can bring back such nostalgia. Do we remember music before we learn to speak? I still like the old song by Pink Floyd "Wish you were here" I'm not an American HATER either, but I do see some room for improvement.

"So, so you think you can tell
    Heaven from Hell,
    Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
    From a cold steel rail?
    A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
    Your heros for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
    And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
    We're just two lost souls
    Swimming in a fish bowl,
    Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
    What have we found?
    The same old fears.
    Wish you were here

One of my favorites is an old Queensryche song:

    - Silent Lucidity -

    Hush now don't cry
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
    You're lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream
    Spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life
So here it is, another chance
Wide awake you face the day
Your dream is over...or has it just begun?

    There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run to in the night
    Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize it and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the tears
And ride the whims of your mind
    Commanding in another world
    Suddenly, you hear and see
    This magic new dimension

    I-will be watching over you
I-am gonna help you see it through
I-will protect you in the night
I-am smiling next to you...in silent lucidity

If you open your mind for me
You won't rely on open eyes to see
    The walls you built within
Come tumblng down, and a new world will begin
Living twice at once you learn
You're safe from pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but...

    I-will be watching over you
I-am gonna help you see it through
I-will protect you in the night
I-am smiling next to you...in silent lucidity

All these beautiful and powerful words.
So long in the history of mankind people have been screaming a the top of their lungs...WAKE UP!!!
    When will we wake up?

I wish they taught self awareness in schools before they teach everything ealse.

    Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
    You that hide behind walls
    You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

    You that never done nothin'
    But build to destroy
    You play with my world
    Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
    When the fast bullets fly

    Like Judas of old
    You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
    You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
    That runs down my drain

    You fasten the triggers
    For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
    You hide in your mansion
    As young people's blood
    Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

    You've thrown the worst fear
    That can ever be hurled
    Fear to bring children
    Into the world
    For threatening my baby
    Unborn and unnamed
    You ain't worth the blood
    That runs in your veins

    How much do I know
    To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
    You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
    Though I'm younger than you
    Even Jesus would never
    Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
    Is your money that good
    Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
    I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
    All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
    And your death'll come soon
    I will follow your casket
    In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
    Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead
