I did a little research on this very interesting creature and the name: ichthyosaur was derived from Greek meaning Fish Lizard. It was estimated to have lived during the Mesozoic Period. It seems that they evolved from Land-based reptiles and moved back to the oceans.

The largest Ichthyosaurs that has been found is around 15 meters and lived mostly off of the cephalopod (which were sort of squids).
