Looking at insects really make my hair stand up. I find it creepy. But soon or later I will have to study them.

How many type of insects do we know of?

Insects are by far the most successful animal group on the planet. Of the 1.5-1.8 million species that have been identified, over 750 000 are estimated to be insects, and the majority of the species yet to be identified are probably insects.

A brief glimpse of the classes of insects:

    The Apterygota
    Thysanura Silverfish
    Diplura Two Pronged Bristle-tails
    The Exopterygota
    Ephemeroptera Mayflies
    Odonata Dragonflies
    Plecoptera Stoneflies
    Phasmida Stick-Insects
    Dermaptera Earwigs
    Embioptera Web Spinners
    Dictyoptera Cockroaches and Mantids
    Isoptera Termites
    Psocoptera Bark and Book Lice
    Mallophaga Biting Lice
    Siphunculata Sucking Lice
    Anoplura Biting and Sucking Lice
    Hemiptera True Bugs
    Homoptera Cicadas and Hoppers
    The Endopterygota
    Neuroptera Lacewings
    Coleoptera Beetles
    Strepsiptera Stylops
    Mecoptera Scorpionflies
    Siphonaptera Fleas
    Diptera True Flies
    Lepidoptera Butterflies and Moths
    Trichoptera Caddis Flies
    Hymenoptera Ants Bees and Wasps

That's alot of insects to get used to!

    Great reply Drlau!

Insects are very intrestin after you get over the whole creppy part of them all. I have often been told i have to be on drugs because you can find me from time to time stareing at an ant colony/ food line for 20 - 30 min. They are the most intresting creatures. I love going in my woods and watching spiders in their webs breaking open rotten logs and seeing what i can find. When you see the world from an insect perspective like you see in many documenteries its a verry intresting world to be in. I simply love the orginization and percison. They truly are intresting jsut watch a group of ants for a while. its cool stuff:up:
