Partly due to really good points/suggetions in this thread: http://www.ignorancedenied.com/viewthread.php?tid=1521&page=1#pid11291 about asking frequent questions, and partly due to the fact that it's Zoology month on ID and that's my absolute favorite topic, and mostly due to my own curiosity, I have a question for anyone that has much knowledge about snakes:

When did snakes originate, as measured by millions of years ago? I know that archosaurs had already diverged from Lepidosaurs by the late Triassic, (dinosaurs are one of my big interests) but I'm not too familiar with the radiation of species within Lepidosaurs. When do squamates (snakes) as we recognize them first appear in the fossil record?

Any info or references are appreciated, thanks for your time.
